Counseling

Counseling, or psychotherapy, is a collaborative process where clients participate in regularly scheduled sessions, during which they engage in identifying challenges and needs, increasing insight and self-awareness, and developing strategies to reach the goals they desire.

Counseling does not have to be a long-term venture. I often employ short-term psychotherapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that have been shown to be very effective with many emotional and relationship difficulties.

I tailor the counseling approach to best address my clients’ needs and goals. In addition to short-term approaches, I sometimes use longer-term, insight oriented approaches. Through these approaches, my clients achieve success in making important changes, accelerating personal growth, attaining greater contentment, and enhancing personal effectiveness.

Additionally, I often collaborate with other professionals with whom my clients are working, such as psychiatrists, doctors, teachers, or guidance counselors. Such collaborations frequently aid the client's success.

Adults

I provide counseling services such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for adults who have a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, attention deficit disorders, divorce recovery, learning or academic issues, career and workplace issues, post-traumatic stress, health and wellness, stress management, and lifestyle issues.

My goal for my clients is to help them develop greater satisfaction and fulfillment in life and to see greater success in their relationships and career. back to top

Child and Teen

I provide counseling services for children, adolescents, and adults with certain areas of emphasis in my practice.

I work with older children and teens for a range of emotional issues (e.g., anxiety, depression) as well as behavioral, social, and academic achievement issues.

My expertise in behavior problems such as Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) extends to services including younger children. For younger children with such behavior issues, I believe in a family approach that often involves parent counseling. Current research has validated this approach as the best for young children with ADHD and ODD.

Career Counseling

Career counseling is a process of discovering and highlighting important personal strengths and personality traits so as to learn how one best fits into the work world. It enables an individual to find and transition into work that is most likely to be satisfying and successful.

Assessment information is often integrated with information from previous work experience to develop a strong sense of self understanding that will guide career selection. In career counseling, transitioning to a new career is facilitated through several steps.
